Permaculture designer Dough Crouch writes about his first visit to Eco-community Sekier - a farm where he is going to prepare a course. He offers and interesting view (not only) on his hosting place and community.
The Eco-community Sekier is a traditional farm house on a meadow above Zajezova, bought in 1994 by the NGO Community for Life in Harmony (PHŽ). It is looking for an alternative to a meaningless consumerist lifestyle, inspired by the modest and self-sufficient life of our ancestors, but also by modern trends like permaculture, natural building and the eco-village movement.
The course will be an 80-hour Permaculture Design Certificate Course spread out over 14 days. This ample time allows students to digest the material, get hands-on experience and work thoroughly on the final design project and presentation. The course will be certified through TreeYo Permaculture as we are guided by Bill Mollison’s curriculum that comprises the 14 chapters of his book “Permaculture: A Designer’s Manual”.
Ecovillages offer inspiring examples of how people and communities can live healthy, cooperative, genuinely happy and meaningful lifestyles --- More Information at http://ecovillage.org or http://www.gen-europe.org Ecovillages are beacons of hope that help in the transition to a more sustainable future on Earth.
Permaculture is a collection of inovative but also traditional approaches, which lead to sustainable lifestyle. Zajezka is a place where many of them are tested in reality and visitors can see examples of permaculture design.
Zajezova is an agricultural region, but due to its location it has traditionally been focusing on animal husbandry. However, cattle, sheep or goats are kept only by a couple of families, most of them belonging to the original inhabitants. Families who don’t keep animals buy products from them and thus support the local economy. Almost every family here has a bigger or smaller garden and orchard which provides a part of their food. The families then trade, sell or give away surplus of garden produce and seeds among each other
Brana (The Gate) is a natural area of about 5 ha located on one of the Javorie mountains ridges, 900 m above sea level. A tiny community of its inhabitants practices conscious living, co-creativity and cares about its relations to all life forms. Together we focus on energetic healing, rituals and ceremonies, natural building and permacultural gardening, arts, crafts and art therapies. Our goal is to be open to learn about Life on Earth as such.
This page was created and is maintained thanks to support from local NGOs and part of local inhabitants who belong to Zaježka Community. Zaježka Community is informal group of local active people, who cooperate and participate on social life in Zaježová.
